What Rhode Island Contractor Registration Means for Homeowners

Updated September 28, 2026 · Drywall of RI

Drywall of RI is a registered Rhode Island contractor (Reg. GC-46139) with Rhode Island’s Contractors’ Registration and Licensing Board. Registration is not a vanity badge — it is how the state tracks who is allowed to take certain residential work and how disputes get handled. Here is what that means when you hire.

Registration vs. “insured” vs. a handshake

Registration means the company is on file with the state for the work it offers. Insurance (liability and workers’ compensation) protects you if something goes wrong on site. You want both — plus a written estimate that defines scope.

A low cash bid with no paperwork is expensive when a leak, injury, or unfinished job lands on you. Ask for the registration number and verify it. Ours is GC-46139.

What a written estimate should include

Scope of rooms and surfaces, what is included (hang, tape, finish level, paint or not), exclusions, timeline, and price. Change orders in writing if the job grows after walls are opened.

Requesting an estimate online or by phone does not create a contract. The job is binding when both sides accept a written estimate or signed agreement.

Local matters for drywall and plaster

Rhode Island housing stock — plaster, triples, coastal moisture — rewards crews who work it every week. Registration shows legitimacy; local experience shows in how repairs blend and hold.

Key takeaways

  • Check registration and insurance before work starts.
  • Get scope and price in writing.
  • Estimates are not contracts until accepted in writing.
  • Local experience matters for RI plaster and multi-family stock.
